Motivation
Why migrate the blog?
Two reasons:
- After the recent heartfelt community feedback, I wanted to get back to writing again
- Wanted to revive my blog on it’s 20th anniversary: Website finally up!
What was I using before?
I was using WordPress for the longest time, but about a couple of years ago, I migrated to Ghost, because I felt it was a more modern & complete blog system, which included subscriptions, etc.
However, I had a lot of friction while using the Ghost editor, e.g. nested bullet points meant switching from rich text editor to plain markdown editor.
What did I want to use?
I already use Notion for composing, so I felt it was more convenient to switch to it as the CMS (content management system) for the blog too.
How to publish?
After some quick research, I switched to Super which allows you to create a website from your Notion published pages.
Some of the things I liked about Super:
- Instant update
- Cost reasonable
- Custom domain
- Custom slugs
- RSS feed
Some of the things I didn’t like about Super:
- Aggressive cache that does not automatically refresh, needs me to specifically hard-refresh each page (very annoying)
- Waiting on pagination for databases (don’t want the front page to be that long!)
- Tags should lead to per-tag pages
- Deleted pages don’t get deleted
- Multiple site pricing
Overall, I’m hoping this switch will lead me to publish more often 🤞🏽 🖖🏽
